I'm a bit late, I thought they were supposed to be POSTED on May 1, but anyways.  oh except now it's May 2 because it's after 12am...LOL.  Better late than never, I guess.  Oh yeah, and April was more of a killer month than I thought it was going to be, so there are a few missing shots because I didn't have time to go back and check the list, I just went from memory.  Oh well.  It is what it is.  And it was fun to look for the ones I remembered.

That is exactly how I felt when my student, Amy used a color-saturation technique to match the roses in her black and white photos to the papers.  Although I had tried and tried to get her to understand, I would just have to realize, that the preaching of the gospel of temperament will not do for the making of disciples; nor will Jesus shield us in the slightest degree from any requirements of discipleship.  Now I realize that Jesus's requirements have nothing to do with scrapbooking, but all behavior makeovers take hard work, constant practice, and parental reinforcement. Even though I'm not Amy's parent, when it comes to teaching others, we must assure them that God will faithfully meet their every need!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!  I didn't realize how difficult I was making it for myself when I just picked the nearest five books.  Next time I'll choose ones that are at least in the same general field....ROFL!  Here are the actual sentences and the books they are from.

Things I Love Thursday

This TILT is dedicated to our new friend, the Leapster 2.  Of which we have TWO of for purposes I'm sure you can easily guess.  (LOL)

I love it because the kids can play virtually without parental assistance, relatively quietly, for longer than five minutes, and it is essentially a learning gameboy for kids.  So they are having fun, AND they're learning their letters/numbers/shapes/concepts.  Huge plus in my book.  I'm not saying that the fact that they play quietly and are contented for longer than 15 minutes at a time has a greater bearing on my feelings toward the Leapster than the fact that they are LEARNING.  Not at ALL. 

Second really cool thing is that there are lots of games, so when they get bored with one, they can just plug in a new cartridge and you've got MORE hours minutes of fun.  LOL!  

I think I used a few too many adverbs in this post.  I am EXTREMELY sorry.  Hehe.

Life Is Funny

Yesterday life was surprising...today it's funny. Funny, as in "twisted." LOL.

You know, when you're a kid playing freeze tag with all your friends (especially the big kids b/c that makes you feel important), the last thing in the world you want is to be tagged (unless you're being tagged to become un-frozen, that is).

But then you grow up and become a blogger and you live for the day when somebody tags you. And you're it. LOL!!!

And yes. The talk of playing freeze tag in the dark with the older kids is the voice of experience. *grin*

Anywho, Melissa tagged me and although I've actually been tagged for this one before, being on the total high that comes from getting another real tag (not the --hey, if you're reading this and want to do it, then tag, you're it-- kind of tag), I decided to come up with seven NEW weird and random facts about myself.

Cuz you know, I have a never ending supply of those things.

1. I used to think guacamole was discusting (think baby poo) but then my uncle Mark made some homemade and it was incredible. I still don't particularly care for it when we go out to eat, but I could eat my weight in my uncle's version. If I ever decide to try it, I'll have to post the recipe...he tried to show me, but I do not remember all the amounts and it seems like there were some unusual ingredients in it that I never would have imagined. Maybe I can google it and get close enough to jog my memory.
2. I can pop my third thumb joint (the one next to my wrist). That goes back to the days in SC when us kids used to sit together in church and try to come up with new ways to get in trouble. LOL.
3. Speaking of food and the past, I remember my aunt Betty used to make us peanut butter and banana sandwiches when I was a kid that I L-O-V-E-D, but I googled it and googled it and other than the fact that Elvis liked pb & b, I could not find anything resembling what she used to make. I remember it was mashed together and had an ungodly amount of sugar in it and tasted more like candy than a sandwich. It wasn't toasted either, which was apparently the way Elvis liked it. Aunt B made it for us one day and my brother (the child genius in the cooking department....I think that will be my next strange thing) watched her do it and figured it out at home and he and I had peanut butter and banana sandwiches Aunt Betty style for MONTHS on end. Until we figured out that it was a lot faster to just smear pb on a bread and stick half a banana on it. I'm sure mom was happy about that, too, since there was much less sugar on that version. LOL!
4. Okay, on the cooking thing....when I was a kid, my reputation as a cook was pretty pathetic. My dad always said I was the only person he knew who could burn a pot of boiling water. (In my defense, I only did that once or twice and that was because I was an avid --read distracted-- reader...hey, I was a stellar reader...that counts for something, right? Maybe I should have read cookbooks.) Anywho, as an adult, I have come to the conclusion that it wasn't really my cooking, since I do pretty good now. Okay. Decent. Alright? My point is, it wasn't my cooking....my brother was just a culinary mastermind and the fact that he could bake biscuits that tasted like grandma's at the age of 8 when my MOM couldn't even get them to taste just like grandma's HAD to be what made me look like such an awful cook. I'm sure that's it. LOL!
5. I think I must be hungry....so far 3 out of 5 of my strange things have to do with food. Why break the trend now? Okay, maybe this is not a weird fact, but I cannot grocery shop if I'm not at least a little bit hungry. If I go after I eat, I MIGHT be able to make myself buy one or two things, but I end up passing up things I know we'll need for meals the next week just because I'm not hungry for it at the time. I know it's a common thing not to grocery shop when you're hungry cuz you spend more, but if I don't, I don't get even the necessities....and that means I just have to go out again, which actually costs more. Haha.
6. Okay...let's get off the food. I spend at least an hour at the beginning of every trip, mentally going over what I packed to make sure I didn't forget anything. I don't know why, since, by the time we're on the road, it's too late to pack whatever little item that was forgotten. I guess it's probably so that I'll have the rest of the trip to mourn and worry over the forgotten item. It is in my favor that I have not yet left behind any little PEOPLE, which is the most important thing.
7. My great grandparents imigrated to the US from Italy but none of my family speaks Italian. They came over in a time when immigrants learned to speak English when they came to this country (haha), but I do wish they would have handed down Italian as a second language. Other than Nonna and Poppa, which is what my kids call my parents (thanks to google), I don't know any of it.

Okay. That's seven.

I've also decided I'm going to go out and find seven random blogs to tag. Maybe I'll even get adventurous and pick blogs that are totally new on my blog-scouting-radar! *grin*

Things I Love Thursday: Salad Shooter

And no, by "Salad Shooter," I'm not talking about target practice on bits of lettuce.

I'm actually talking about one of these things that grates/shreds cheese, nuts, veggies, or whatever....like a charm. I picked mine up at a thrift store (I might'a paid two dollars--yay!) by recommendation of a good friend who was with me at the time (bless you, Sis T.), and this thing is wonderful.

When I first got it, I used it a few times to make salads and it sure beats the fire out of hand grating (I should know, that was on our chore list when I was a kid...we had salad almost every night, so I was a professional hand grater....and I grated a few salad fixin's each night, too....LOL).

Then for awhile, it sat on my shelf unused (just because I didn't cook a whole lot and what I DID cook was convenience foods that were already mostly prepared), but now that food prices have gone up and I'm looking for every way to be frugal, this baby comes out several times a week. Usually for cheese, since the block cheese is much cheaper than the shredded version and it only takes a couple extra minutes to shred it myself with this handy dandy little gadget. And the best part is that with this tool, I don't shred my hands anymore. LOL!

It's made by Presto and mine is an older version but I LOVE IT!

You can go to the official Presto website for more information and where to buy it, and don't worry...they're not paying me anything to tell you this either. This is a lousy deal and I get nothing out of it. Oh well. Life's a bummer. =)

I've never done one of these Things I Love Thursdays, but I've seen the posts on several blogs and today when I got it out to shred some cheese to go in the hashbrown casserole, I thought...MAN, I LOVE this thing. And hey, this is Thursday, to boot. I could do a blog post on it! LOL.

So there it is. This may be the only TILT I wind up doing, but then again, I was looking for something to get me going on the ends of the weeks that seem to get stuck, so this would take care of one of those days. We'll see.

Anyways, go forth and grate. Or shred. Just do it.

Ten on Tuesday

Since my Tuesdays hardly ever see a post these days, I thought maybe doing a weekly meme on Tuesday would make me get on and post something. Anyways, this one sounds interesting so I'm gonna give it a shot.

This week is 10 Superstitions, Traditions, and/or Personality Quirks:

1. I don't believe in superstitions.
2. Despite number one, I still knock on wood when I talk about something I don't want to jinx. LOL!
3. Also despite number one, I refuse to believe that Mondays are NOT out to get me.
4. The toilet paper must be put on the roll OVER, not UNDER. I'm not sure if that is a tradition or a personality quirk.
5. I am seriously grumpy in the mornings.
6. I have a horrible habit of developing good habits and then once they're a habit, breaking them in a moment of weakness. (A side note here, why are good habits so much easier to break than bad?)
7. I only mop the floor when I get tired of my feet sticking to it....that's a tradition. LOL.
8. Dr. Pepper is a huge weakness of mine....but most of you probably already knew that.
9. I eat ketchup out of the packet with my french fries instead of squeezing it out on the wrapper.
10. Instead of just shedding my clothes in the floor at the end of the day, if they're not dirty, I fold them neatly before dropping them in the floor in case I decide to wear them again before washing.

Anywho....so there's my ten and here's my post. Yay me. =)

Saw this meme at The Diaper Diaries and decided it might be fun on this night when I'm stuck at the house with the kids with ear infections.....oh yeah and one of them has an ear infection AND the FLU. ARGH. Besides that, I also thought it would be a good chance to have a positive title for a change. LOL. I was looking back at the post titles for this year and they're pretty depressing. Tired. Sick. Exhausted. Achy Head......course, with one kid with the flu and both with ear infections and it's only January 10th......wellllllllll actually....that IS kinda depressing....LOL. Oh yeah, and on the long day? It started with a LONG night. K-man, poor fella....ran 105 starting around 11:30 last night and I was up with him, sponging him off and trying to get his fever down for several hours, finally got him sleeping on one couch while I laid on the other and dozed and was just up and down with him the rest of the night. His fever never dropped below 102, so I called the doc first thing and took him in at 10. Got out of the doctors office around 11:30 with a positive flu test and antibiotics for ear infection and was running through walmart collecting various sick stuff....you know...crackers, soup, gatorade, yada yada....when daycare called. Munchkin's running 101.5 and tugging her ear. Call the doctor and get her in at 1:45 but in the meantime, I go get her from daycare and take all the sick stuff home and unload it (so the popsicles won't melt) and then turn around and take TWO sick kids back to the doctors office. Poor K-man....been drug around all day. The good news is, Munchkin don't have the flu, just an ear infection. Bad news is, she'll likely get it before it's all over. So both kids were in bed by 9:30 tonight and it's 9:53 now and I'm heading there myself since I'll likely be on the couch again with one or both of them before the night is over. Dear God, PLEASE don't let me get sick.

And so that I won't end this on a negative note, here's a munchkin-ism from today:

Course, her best friend changes more often K-man's diapers, but still, it was a supersweet little moment there.

I Totally Should Not Be Here

I'm with CV on this one....only where she should be doing her schoolwork, I should be doing.....well...lots of other things besides this. Haha.

My kids are asleep, praise the almighty God! I stayed completely calm through the entire evening of tantrums and defiance and I didn't let anything they did rile me up. That helped the evening go a bit smoother than the previous few days. Now, I was still as strict as ever (I guess we're too strict apparently, but I think we keep a good balance between authoritative and permissive....especially when I see the results in our children when we lean a little too far to either side....they behave best when we keep it straight down the middle, which is very hard, in case you're wondering and if you don't agree with our parenting style, then go get your own kids. LOL) but I didn't let their tantrums and defiance upset my calm or determination to stick to my guns. I think it was the book I got today from the library...it's called something like a tough mother or something like that and it's how to stick to your guns and not let your three year old walk all over you. ROFL. Exactly the book I need. Haha!

Ahhhhhh.....let's see....there are so many. LOL. Which ones haven't I shared already? *GRIN*

1. I have nightmares about snakes anytime I see one....like at the zoo, in the yard, whatever....*shudder* I've held a snake to try to overcome the fear and it helped, but the fear is still definitely there.
2. I'm one of those crazy people that you see driving down the road in the car by herself singing away at the top of her lungs....and not necessarily sounding very good either....hahah
3. I have just enough talent at just enough things to make me very dangerous....sometimes, I want to not be a jill of all trades...i want to be really good at SOMETHING. Something besides blogging regularly.....which isn't really that unusual....haha!
4. When I folded the towels before kids, I folded them "just so" and when I stacked them, I always tried to make sure they were in a pattern and no towel of each color could be beside a towel of the same color. It was like a puzzle and it really irritated me if I messed it up, but sometimes I would let it be messed up on purpose just so I wouldn't feel like such a freak. (Does that make me a freak in itself?....LOL). Anyways, after kids.....they're folded "just sorta so" and every now and then a couple of the colors will follow a pattern. And I always remember the "before days" when I stick them in the closet as I shrug and move on to the zillion other more important tasks ahead of me....like bloggin.....hahahaha!!
5. I'm really paranoid about getting worms....ya know, like parasites? I think everybody has them, but I remember all kinds of horror stories in my science books in school about getting them from dogs or from running around barefoot in the grass......and every time I look at poop, I wonder if there are worms in it. ROFL. And no, I don't think about that when I'm changing poopy diapers....that's different. HAHAHA. But I do wash my hands REALLY good!!!! And now you know MUCH more than you ever wanted to know, I'm sure! HA! Not to mention this one old guy who went to our church a long long long time ago brought a jar of specimens in for show and tell one time.......EEKKKKK....talk about feeding my paranoia!!!! LOL
6. I think toe-jam smells like limburger cheese. Stop looking at me that way!!! It DOES!!! Have you ever smelled it????(BWAHAHAHA......are you totally grossed out yet? I'm not PURPOSELY trying to come up with gross facts.....I'm just trying to think of stuff I haven't said before, plus Denise's #7 reminded me of that weird fact about me! HAHA. And seriously, that's a true fact!! hahaha)
7. I can't stand people who are stuck on themselves. I think a healthy dose of self esteem is great, but when people who are nice looking think they are just "IT" and you should worship the ground they walk on, that drives me crazy. I also don't like the opposite of that either...when people are NOT nice looking and think they are just "IT." I try really hard not to be stuck on myself. Of course, I fall in the first category, but I'm trying not to think of myself as just "IT" because I know how irritating that is for all the "NOT IT"s around me......ROFL. I AM SO KIDDING!!! For the record, I love being normal and average. I know to think I'm normal is totally living in a dream world, but I'm certainly not "IT" and normal/average is much better than the alternative.....ROFL!!!

So a quick run-down....

Kids to school by 7:30, back home and go to bed until 8:30 (had to wait until the Dr offices opened to make all the appts).

My appt scheduled for 11.

Kids appt scheduled for 1:45.

Kitty appt scheduled for 3:15.

Remainder of CPR/First aid training class at 5:30.

And in between there, I cleaned the house up b/c I found out that mom-in-law was coming tonight to help KC while I was in class, did two loads of laundry (although I didn't get it folded), filled prescriptions, went to pick up my friend (did that early so I'd have some help), got the kids from school, rearranged the kidlets bedrooms to be more accessible, took the kids back to school so that me and Mike could leave for class (KC picked them up after work)......and not all necessarily in that order either. *smiles* But....nowhere in there do you see it listed for me to be sick. Mommies don't get sick days. *sigh* It's a rough life. Wouldn't trade it for nothin though!

Anywho, I have a sinus infection. He gave me antibiotics and decongestant.....*sigh* They're some major horse pills, too, let me tell ya! My face is pretty much hurting. *sigh* And I'm really really tired. Doc said that's from the infection. I guess that means I have had an infection for years. LOL!!! Cuz I'm ALWAYS tired! Seems like it, anyways!

So my friend, Mike, was my lifesaver today. Helping me out with the kids so I could get the cat taken care of, and get them their snacks, and be able to run in the store without getting every-of-tha-body out of their carseats.

I gots some pics of tonights class, but not time to post them right now. Seems like there was something else I was going to post about, too, but I don't member what it was now.

OH, one thing....I got a little bit of my itch for bloggy redecoration out of the way....just switched up some of the colors to make it "fall"-y. Haha.

Also, I'm contemplating a new Friday thing for my blog. Just for fun....stay tuned and maybe I'll get a chance to get the first edition out tomorrow. *grin* IF I have time. *smiles*

Meantime....I'm going to finish my online fun (which is checking out my friends blogs and catching up on me email stuffs) and then head to bed.

Since I really don't have anything to say, and but I just felt like blogging.....

I found this meme on Snot&Kisses called the 5 Things Meme and thought it sounded good for a quick post. Since I haven't been officially "tagged" (but you don't have to be to do one), then I'm going to skip the last 5 (which is tagging other people).

However, I'm challenging myself to do it in 5. Minutes. Since I don't have very much time. Can I do it?

Well, I'm back, but I've decided it may have been for the best that I ran out of time.....cuz frankly, I have to say that my hubby is cuter than any of them, and he's my first pick on any list of guys.....and well, I'd hate to make any of them feel bad b/c they didn't make it to the top of my list. *grin* Like they'd care, but you know.

What can I say? I've got the best hubby....he's perfect. Well. Perfect for me anyways. And for our family. Ooooh I love him. It's kinda overflowing right now b/c he's doing such a fine job with the (un)happy members of our little family....while he's so frustrated with them......and I'm sitting out here blogging and appreciating the fire out of him! But really, I love him even when he's doing a fine job with the HAPPY members of our little family and NOT frustrated and when I'm involved and he's sitting out here blogging.

Speaking of my honey....I'm not 'sposed to tell you that he's started blogging again and that he took it off private b/c he doesn't care about keeping secrets anymore. But you know, I can't help it. He brags on me all the time, so it's only fair that I should get to brag a little, too! So....anyways. Anywhooo.....as far as any other news.....well, today was good. Tonight was rough, but I don't feel like complaining tonight (for a change....LOL) so I'll just leave it at that.

I Wasn't Going To Do This....

But after reading all the other blogging stories and their responses, it just felt...."right." LOL. So here is MY blogging story. Oh yeah, and you can find all the other blogging stories and more details here from Chilihead's site.

How did you start blogging?
Honestly, I don't remember. I think it started becoming a big thing on this scrapbooking message board that I read (or was addicted to) at the time and so out of curiousity after reading a few of their posts, I decided to try it. I was pretty much instantly hooked. I had kept a journal faithfully as a teenager up until I got married when I no longer had the free time to hand write all my thoughts down. (I have about 5 or 6 full handwritten journals from the time I was about 10 or 11 until 18) It's really interesting now to go back and read what I wrote back then and how my writing and thoughts changed over time. I figured it would be great to record this part of my life, too, for future reference, and blogging online is so much easier and faster, that it seemed like a perfect solution. And it was fun to play with the html and design. (Speaking of design, one of these days I'll come up with a design that I'm 100% happy with and then it will stay the same for a long time....so far, I haven't reached that point....so please forgive the constant changes)

Did you intend to be a blog w/a following? If so, how did you go about it?
Nope. The most I ever wanted this to be, is just a place for me to write out the thoughts that go through my head on a daily basis along with the details of my days and the days of those I love that will be forgotten if they're not written down. I don't think I have a following....outside of a few friends, and I'm fine with that. Occasional comments are nice though! *grin*

What do you hope to achieve or accomplish with your blog? Have you been successful? If not, do you have a plan to achieve those goals?
Um, it started out as just a place to have an outlet for my thoughts and random details of my life, and it's still that, but now, one of my biggest kicks is making Wally laugh at whatever I'm blogging about at the time (hahah). And since both of those things seem to happen fairly often, then, yes, I guess that means I have been successful. =)

Has the focus of your blog changed since you started blogging? How?
Maybe a little. I think my writing has changed some. I'm not sure if it is better or worse, but it feels a little different. The focus is a little more on life with kids and foster care, but since that's MY life now, I guess that's not really a change of focus since it's still a blog about MY life.

What do you know now that you wish you'd known when you started?
Well, before I answer that question, I would like give you Shannon's answer to this question as I feel like she said it better than I ever could.....
No matter what you write, no matter how plain-jane-vanilla your subject matter will be, somebody, somewhere, will find a reason to be offended. I wish I had realized this more fully and been more prepared for it. - Shannon @ Rocks In My Dryer
Since that technically can't be MY answer, then I guess my answer to that question would be that I wish I'd known when I started that I should keep last names out of it, keep all specifics out, etc., so that I wouldn't have to go back later and try to fix it after the fact.

Do you make money with your blog?
Nope. Personal satisfaction is worth more than money anyways. LOL. Okay, so I wouldn't MIND making money with it, but I highly doubt anything would come of it since I don't have a "following" as previously mentioned. Hehe. S'okay though. I ain't mad about it.

Does your immediate or extended family know about your blog? If so, do they read it? If not, why?
Uh. Yeah. And, uh. Yeah. And uh. Sometimes. It's used against me. Bummer.
Nah, really it's no big deal. At first I kept it under my hat, but after awhile when people asked me questions or wanted to catch up on my life, it was just easier to say....do you really want to know? Just go to my blog. And then I lost track of who I'd told that, so when someone asked me how things were going I had to start asking them if they'd read my blog so I wouldn't be like telling them something they already knew.....and then if they weren't aware of my blog before, they were then.....LOL. I do miss the privacy sometimes, but then that's when I started the private blog....that helps.....although I don't feel the need to use it very often. I only know of a couple family members that read it though....the rest of my readers (that I know of) are friends.

What two pieces of advice would you give to a new blogger?
1. Keep it anonymous. Don't give out your last name, your town, your work, etc.
2. Blog for yourself first, and do it regularly. You'll thank yourself later on in life, and if you pick up readers on the way or give your friends a chance to keep up with your life, then that's just an added bonus!
